    New entry regulations to the UAE - does it get more complicated to obtain a visit visa for Dubai?

    From which date will it be in effect?
    Starting July 29, 2008, 0000hrs, non-nationals wishing to enter the UAE have to follow the new rules.

    What is changing?
    - an increase in prices for the issuing of the visa
    - a valid accident and health insurance upon entering the UAE becomes compulsory

    Can I obtain a free visit visa upon arrival?
    Yes, citizens of Germany, Brunei, Belgium, Australia, The Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Austria, New Zealand, United States of America, Canada, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, Andorra, San Marino, Liechtenstein, France, Finland, Malta, Vatican, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Portugal, Ireland, Greece, Spain, Monaco, Iceland and of course the five other members of the GCC (Bahrain, Kuwait, Sultanate of Oman, Qatar, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia).

    please note, that the exempted countries will also be exempted regarding the health insurance

    These new visa rules should have been imposed much earlier. Please let me add that right now it's not made clear yet, for how long somebody has to leave the UAE before returning back on i.e. an employment visa. After the "visa run" plane crash to Kish which costs 43 lives, the late Sheik Zayed imposed the law that a visa could get changed without leaving the country against paying a fee of Dhs 500. Still nothing changed. That's why new rules had to be imposed. H

    H, you are right, there should be some changes at the root of the problem, not just ensuring that people entering the country have sufficient funds - but i guess that's what it is all about in the DXB: capital.
